A flat panel screen that uses the liquid crystal display (LCD) technology and connects to a computer. Laptops have used LCD screens almost exclusively, and the LCD monitor is the standard display screen for desktop computers.

If you don’t know a laptop screen’s gamut coverage, you can at least see if it is labeled as an IPS or TN display. Better-quality laptop screens use IPS (in-plane switching) technology, which offers better viewing angles and more vibrancy than standard TN (twisted nematic) panels.

LCD monitors tend to be cheaper and more readily available than LED displays, thanks to decades of standard-setting. Both make for a great gaming monitor. LED displays are newer, more expensive, and offer an improved picture quality, offering deeper blacks and improved color accuracy.

TN, or Twisted Nematic panels, are the oldest variety of LCD panels, but they’re still quite common even today. They’re cheap to produce, and they have very low input lag, which makes them appealing for gamers. They also support refresh rates of up to 240Hz, another plus for fast-paced environments.
